How do I get the full text of an article?

Answer

The best way to get the full text of an article is to install LibKey Nomad, the Library's browser extension which provides easy one-click access to full text articles from PubMed as well as most publisher websites.

We also recommend that you begin your article search from the search box on the Library's home page (make sure to select the tab of the resource you would like to search) if you are searching in the following places:

  • PubMed (look for the blue "Find it @ SUNY Optometry" button for full text if you do not have LibKey Nomad installed)
  • SUNYOptSearch: the library's search engine which comprehensively searches most of our databases and journals (look for the links labeled "PDF download" or "Get It...")
  • Google Scholar (be sure to set up Library Links in your settings)

Other tips include:

  • Use the links provided on the Library's A-Z Database page to search in an individual database (like Cochrane)
  • Install the Unpaywall browser extension to find an Open Access version of your article when available
